Selection Sharing

When you select text on any web page, you have three ways to share just that selection:

A small button appears near your selection. Click it to instantly share the selected text to your default endpoint.

The button auto-hides when you clear the selection.

Press Ctrl+Shift+K (or Cmd+Shift+K on Mac) to share the current selection.

You can customize this shortcut in your browser’s extension settings (chrome://extensions/shortcuts).

Right-click selected text → Share selection to Context Bro.

When sharing a selection, the {{selection}} and {{selectionHtml}} template variables are populated with the selected text. The {{content}} variable still contains the full page content.

If you want a template that only sends the selection, use the Selection Only preset:

{
"selection": "{{selection}}",
"sourceUrl": "{{url}}",
"sourceTitle": "{{title}}",
"clippedAt": "{{date}} {{time}}"
}
VariableWith selectionWithout selection
{{content}}Full page contentFull page content
{{selection}}Selected text (Markdown)Empty string
{{selectionHtml}}Selected text (HTML)Empty string

Both {{content}} and {{selection}} are always available — your template decides which to include.
